File Management Commands

The backup command places the boot conﬁguration ﬁle into the archive. (The boot

conﬁguration ﬁle is the Conﬁgured boot conﬁguration in the show boot command’s output.)

If the running conﬁguration contains changes that have not been saved, these changes are

not in the boot conﬁguration ﬁle and are not archived. To make sure the archive contains the

conﬁguration that is currently running on the switch, use the save conﬁg command to save

the running conﬁguration to the boot conﬁguration ﬁle, before using the backup command.

Examples: The following command creates an archive of the system-critical ﬁles and

copies the archive directly to a TFTP server. The ﬁlename in this example

includes a TFTP server IP address, so the archive is not stored locally on the

switch.

DWS-1008# backup system tftp:/10.10.20.9/sysa_bak critical

success: sent 28263 bytes in 0.324 seconds [ 87231 bytes/sec]

clear boot conﬁg

Resets to the factory default the conﬁguration that MSS loads during a reboot.

Syntax: clear boot conﬁg

Defaults: None.

Access: Enabled.

Examples: The following commands back up the conﬁguration ﬁle on a switch, reset the

switch to its factory default conﬁguration, and reboot the switch:

DWS-1008# copy conﬁguration tftp://10.1.1.1/backupcfg

success: sent 365 bytes in 0.401 seconds [ 910 bytes/sec]

DWS-1008# clear boot conﬁg

success: Reset boot conﬁg to factory defaults.

DWS-1008# reset system force

...... rebooting ......

Performs the following copy operations:

• Copies a ﬁle from a TFTP server to nonvolatile storage.

• Copies a ﬁle from nonvolatile storage or temporary storage to a TFTP server.

• Copies a ﬁle from one area in nonvolatile storage to another.

• Copies a ﬁle to a new ﬁlename in nonvolatile storage.
